Currently based in London, Ailsa is a freelance soprano actively involved in the music scene. She regularly sings with The Choir of the Chapels Royal, HM Tower of London, St Martin’s Voices, and the Corvus Consort. Her versatility is further demontrated through her busy freelance career, where she works with ensembles across the UK and Europe.
Ailsa began her singing career in Hexham Abbey Girls’ Choir at the age of 9. During her undergraduate degree, she was appointed as the first female Choral Scholar at Bristol Cathedral in 2016. She then went on to complete a Master's in Solo Voice Ensemble Singing at the University of York with Robert Hollingworth (director of I Fagiolini), graduating with distinction in 2019. During this time, she held the Leeds Festival Chorus Chorus Master Scholarship and was a member of the NYCGB Fellowship Programme 2018/19. Since moving to London, she has held scholarships with VOCES8, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St George’s Bloomsbury and Holy Sepulchre Church. She has enjoyed a strong career progression (despite the pandemic’s best attempts) to a busy portfolio career that has allowed her to travel across the UK and Europe and soon touring across the rest of the world. Confidently able to adapt to different styles of singing, Ailsa has enjoyed working with groups that work on a vast variety of repertoire, most recently including VOCES8, Huelgas Ensemble , Siglo de Oro, I Fagiolini, Shards, and Echo Vocal Ensemble. This adaptable style has led her to recording work with artists such as David Gilmour, AURORA, and you might hear her on recent film soundtracks thanks to her session work at Abbey Road Studios, Air Studios Lyndhurst, Angels Studios and The Pool Studios.
Alongside singing, Ailsa enjoys a busy freelance arts administration career, which currently involves working for I Fagiolini, the composer Joanna Marsh, and for Stour Music and Whiddon Autumn Music Festivals.
